Wearing a binder during the summer can be brutal—especially if you live somewhere hot (we see you, fellow Texans). But with the right prep, styles, and reminders, you can stay cool(ish), comfortable, and affirmed.
Here are our best tips for binding safely and comfortably in the heat:
1. Re-check Your Sizing
If it's been a while since you measured yourself, now's a good time to do a fit check. Bodies fluctuate, especially with hydration, heat, and hormones—and a too-tight binder in summer is a recipe for discomfort.
Quick tip: If you're between sizes or feeling restricted, size up for summer or rotate in a racerback or half-length binder like our Bareskin Binder.
2. Avoid Layering If You Can
Summer is the season of single-layer outfits, so your binder may be more visible than usual. Our binders are designed to be worn on their own or layered under loose tanks and tees—no need to sweat through three layers just to feel good in your skin.
We recommend pairing your binder with one of our lightweight, oversized FLAVNT tees (shoutout to the Protect Trans Folks tee or Hot Trans Boy Summer cutoff for extra softness).
3. Don’t Sleep or Overheat in It and be Careful Getting Wet
We know—it’s tempting to wear your binder all day, every day. But in the summer, taking breaks is more important than ever. Give your body time to breathe, and never wear a binder to sleep in. If you want to wear your binder while swimming: make sure and size up, and don't try to put your binder on or take it off while wet. Make sure if you're in the water, you're taking care to listen to your body and not doing strenuous activities.
Hot weather hack: Use cooling towels or carry a travel-size fan in your bag if you're out all day. And always bring a backup shirt in case you need to take your binder off.
4. Listen to Your Body—Always
No amount of gender euphoria is worth heat exhaustion. If you're feeling dizzy, short of breath, or lightheaded—take a break. Your safety comes first, always.
